Elmsford
Just over one square mile in size, Elmsford is one of six villages in the mid-county town of Greenburgh, with a close-knit, diverse community and an abundance of dining, shopping and recreational options. The name Elmsford was adopted in the 1870s, but its inspiration goes back to the Revolutionary War, when General George Washington purportedly ordered his troops in the area to avoid a bridge over the Saw Mill River and instead “cross at the ford with the elm.”
