The Foglio Family moved to Lewisboro in October 2020 from the city. They were excited to move to a vibrant community. You can often seeing them pushing their son Ben up and down Todd Road in his lime-green wheelchair. Ben suffers from an incredibly rare Childhood Orphan Disease called Salla that prohibits him intellectually and physically. Ben was diagnosed when he was 3 years old and he is actually the 1st person to be diagnosed with Salla on the east coast. There have only been roughly 150 ppl diagnosed with the disease worldwide.
Ben’s mother, Jessica is an incredibly advocate for him. Since 2018 she has raised over $300,000 for rare disease research in Ben’s name. Since every year of his life is a miracle, his family decided to celebrate his upcoming 6th birthday with a disabled petting zoo. When they called the Lewisboro Police Department to inquire about permits, Chief Alfano was able to connect them with the Lions Club, Fire Department, Parks a Recreation, and the Community Board of Directors! They have generously donated Lewisboro Park on Route 35!
What was a simple outdoor birthday has blossomed into the following:
A "RARE" Community Event Featuring:
1. Broadway and T.V. S.T.A.R. Magician, RJ Lewis
2. A petting zoo (with disabled animals attending)
3. Pony Rides
